Bio

Since 2019, Ezekiel Liaw has been working as a music educator in Singapore, teaching piano, keyboard, and saxophone to children and adults with a wide range of learning profiles. His students include both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners with a strong belief that music can be accessible and meaningful for everyone. Ezekiel completed his Bachelor of Music (classical) at LASALLE College of the Arts in 2022, majoring in saxophone

Ezekiel first picked up the saxophone at the age of nine in his primary school band, but his musical journey began even earlier. His first instrument was the electric organ, which he started learning at a local community centre at the age of four, followed by piano at five. He achieved Grade 5 Piano (Trinity Guildhall) at age nine before choosing to focus on the saxophone. With over two decades of wind band experience and numerous concerts and competitions, he has developed a strong sense of ensemble playing, musical communication, and practical musicianship.

Today, Ezekiel specialises in inclusive, learner-centred music education. He adapts lessons to each student’s needs using clear structure, visual supports, scaffolded tasks, and plenty of encouragement. His goal is to help every student, regardless of ability, background, or learning profile, to experience personal growth, a sense of accomplishment, and the confidence to express themselves through music in a safe and supportive space.

Music Lessons

Initially, Ezekiel started as a freelance teacher, giving 1-to-1 saxophone lessons and tailoring each session to the individual student. With a primary focus on developing musicality and emotional connection in performance, he works on building strong psychomotor and mental–emotional links between the player and their instrument. This helped his students feel more connected to their music and more confident in their musical ability and identity.

Ezekiel has also taught in a school band setting as a woodwind instructor and music theory teacher for Pathlight School’s band CCA in 2019. In order to further his musical training, he stepped down from this role to pursue his studies at LASALLE College of the Arts.

After completing his degree, Ezekiel has been working as a full-time music educator at The Radiant Spectrum, a centre specialising in special-needs and inclusive music education. Since 2023, he has taught a wide variety of students with different learning needs and profiles, specialising in teaching neurodivergent students.
